Every week we will take a look back at a random match that you might not have seen or may have just forgotten about. No company is excluded, so lets see what we can find.
There has been a lot of talk lately about Justin Gabriel (now to be known as PJ Black), as he has abruptly left WWE for new opportunities. Lets take a look back at what at the time was his breakout performance in a match with John Cena on Raw in September of 2010.
Gabriel was part of The Nexus and although WWE was all about The Nexus at the time, the group never had a chance before they were effectively killed off by Team Cena at Summerslam. Gabriel was the workhorse of the group and had shown flashes of brilliance in multi-man matches in the months prior. This was his first major performance in a singles featured spot against a top name and showed people what he was capable of despite having limited main roster experience.
Of course, the result was never in doubt, but coming close to beating Cena in a main event on Raw is as good as you’re going to get. The Nexus had so much potential and Gabriel in particular should have been made a star. But it never happened and four years later he has left the company and will hopefully show his true talent.
