NXT TV, April 27 2016 – Nakamura vs Samson – Review

Again taped at WWE Axxess, the main event of NXT saw Shinsuke Nakamura take on Elias Samson.

Asuka defeated Eva Marie

This wasn’t good. It just never got going and the crowd was dead for it. Eva spent far too much time sitting in hold and when Asuka started building momentum, it didn’t have the pace that it usually has due to Eva’s lack of coordination. Asuka won with a spinning back kick. After the match Asuka & Nia Jax had a brief stare down.

We then had highlights of Samoa Joe winning the NXT title from Finn Balor last week. The crowd reaction to it was what pro wrestling is all about. Pure shock and disbelief.

The Revival defeated Matt Lee & Jeff Gardner

Dash & Dawson beat the holy hell out of these guys. They toyed with them both and just beat them down. They hit a powerbomb with a clothesline off the top and made the other guy tag in before they finished him with Shatter Machine. After the match Dawson cut a great promo about what the tag titles meant to them and that they need them back.

The Hype Bros defeated Blake & Murphy

Corey Graves was funny here. He said Ryder won the IC title in an attempt to get out of his team with Mojo. There wasn’t much to this match. Blake & Murphy targeted the knee of Ryder. Mojo got the tag and they hit the Hype Ryder to get the win.

After the match Dash & Dawson attacked and laid out Ryder & Mojo in the aisle. The Revival mean business after losing the titles.  They lost nothing by losing the titles when they came back like this.

Carmella defeated Aliyah

This was Aliyah’s debut. She looked really solid in the ring, and more solid than Carmella. She taped her fists, which is something no other women really do, so that might make her standout. Carmella won after a flatliner and her headscissor.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Elias Samson

This was really just a showcase for Nakamura.  Samson is just very dull.He worked over Nakamura for a while with holds, until Nakamura came back and hit the Kinshasa and that was that.

This was a skippable episode. The highlight being Dash & Dawson.  The Axxess crowd really hurt the last few weeks of NXT.  They crowd was likely made up of casual fans waiting around for autograph signings with no real interest in NXT. Back to Full Sail next week.

Not a boxer but a pro wrestling fan. If there’s a ring I’ll watch it, so naturally I have a lot of opinions (complaints).
