5 Reasons to watch Evolve 66 & 67

If ROH, NXT & Summerslam aren’t enough for you, Evolve are back with another double header weekend. Evolve 66 is on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 8:00pmET out of Joppa, MD then Evolve 67 is on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 3:00pmET out of Brooklyn, NY. These are two of Evolves biggest shows ever.

The end of the reign of Thatcher?

Timothy Thatcher dropping the Evolve Championship has been a long time coming. The question is, who does Thatcher drop the belt to? This weekend he has two huge defences against Matt Riddle in a No Holds Barred match and Drew Gulak, a guy who he has been on a collision course with for the better part of a year. Each of these matches should be great if given the chance to be. Thatcher/Riddle doesn’t need to be convoluted with a stupid finish, just let Thatcher get a decisive win or loss so that if he does face Gulak as champion it comes off as an important match. If Thatcher loses to Riddle it would make sense, Riddle is easily one of the top stars in the company and Riddle taking the belt on their third match would be great but then there’s Gulak, the Cathch Point leader and a match that the whole Thatcher vs Catch Point feud has been building to. Gulak taking the belt would cap off an amazing run for him. He’s been working hard since becoming a mainstay in Evolve and is the only Catch Point member to have not lost to Thatcher yet. Either way, expect great things.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs Cedric Alexander

Two of the best wrestlers, not only in the CWC,but in the world. Alexander left ROH and has been proving what a mishandling of talent he was while ZSJ is one of the most beloved Indie stars around.  Alexander had a star making match against Kota Ibushi, so his stock has never been higher as he likely gets set to head off to WWE. Sabre & Alexander have net recently in PWX & AAW in two matches that got rave reviews, so expectations are high with this one. This match has the potential to steal the show as both these of wrestlers going to put their best foot forward.

Galloway, EC3, and DUSTIN vs Catch Point – Grudge Match

This should be spectacular if given the chance to be. I’m excited to see if DUSTIN, the former Chuck Taylor takes to a more serious persona here as I feel like that could be a turning point for him. He’s talented in ring so I’m excited to see how that meshes more with Galloway and EC3. Catch Point has been great as of late, Williams, Yehi and TJP are going to be refreshing as a team. I’m excited to see if Perkins plays into being a part of the group or if he tries to shine more light on himself above all. Any way you shape this match, it should be great given the intensity and realism of this Team Galloway vs Evolve feud.

Matt Riddle vs Tommy End

When you think of unique performers, they don’t come more unique and different than Matt Riddle & Tommy End. Matt Riddle has been blowing people away since he stepped into the Evolve ring and so far he has made most opponents look like weak but here he faces a new and exciting challenge, Tommy End. End is known for his swift kicks and kickboxing/MMA style.  That vs the hybrid style and MMA influence of Riddle should make this something extremely different. This will easily be a great match and if it lives up to all expectation, it’ll probably be the best match to come out of Evolve this weekend.

Cody Rhodes arrives.

Cody Rhodes asked for his release back in May and now he’s on a mission to prove himself with Evolve being his first stop. I expect Cody to hit the ground running and show that WWE didn’t utilize him correctly especially considering who his first opponents are. Evolve 66 gives us Rhodes vs Zack Sabre Jr. This should be technical greatness and gives us a side of Cody that hasn’t been seen in a long time. Evolve 67 gives us Rhodes vs Chris Hero which should be a blow away match. If you can’t have a great match with Chris Hero then you stand no chance.  This is a huge weekend for Cody Rhodes.

I’m small, talkative and either thinking about wrestling or music. I make a lot of jokes so take what I say with a grain of salt. Ring of Honor & Evolve are my faves. I live at Florida wrestling shows on the weekends.
