5 Reasons to Watch ROH Death Before Dishonor XIV

ROH DBD

Ring of Honor is back on Pay-Per-View on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 9pm Eastern out of Las Vegas, NV for Death Before Dishonor XIV. This card is incredibly stacked. The show is on PPV, iPPV and the Fite TV app. Here are 5 reasons to tune in:

ROH World Tag Team Championship

The Addiction vs Hiroshi Tanahashi & Michael Elgin vs Tetsuya Naito & EVIL

This match is stacked with top tier talent and should be a lot of fun. EVIL returns to NJPW for the first time since he was Watanabe and teams with Los Ingobernables de Japon leader Naito, a faction that are one of the hottest acts in pro wrestling. Elgin & Tanahashi team regularly and there is tension here between Naito & Elgin with an upcoming IWGP Intercontinental title match between the two. Elgin has plenty of guys to toss around.  He and EVIL always go to war when they get the chance.. Then there’s the Championship, The Addiction are such fun heels and I’m excited to see how they step up here.  It’s hard to see a title switch here with so many NJPW talents in the match, but a win over these top names will be a big boost for Daniels & Kazarian.

Kazuchika Okada vs Dalton Castle

This match is exciting because Castle is one of those stars who can have a really entertaining match with anyone, and has a huge chance to excel here against the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.  The ring will be oozing charisma in this one. This match is going to be great. Okada is going to test Castle and Castle, with all his flamboyancy, is really going to have to step up. We will hopefully see a serious side to Castle here.

Katsuyori Shibata vs Silas Young

Ever since the ROH/NJPW partnership started, the one name that western fans have been begging for is Shibata, and now he is finally arriving in ROH.  A match with Young is a good introduction for Shibata, as we can’t forget that not everyone is familiar with him. Going in, obviously Shibata is the favorite to win. If you’ve yet to see Shibata then you are in for a mega-treat. Shibata is a badass. He is a no nonsense ass kicker with the stiffest strikes and most believable offence in pro wrestling today.  Young is a guy that isn’t afraid to get physical, so this match could surprise a few people.

ROH World Television Championship

Bobby Fish vs Mark Briscoe

It took one promo to sell me on this match. Fish telling Mark that him taking the title would knock it down a level as he is the lesser Briscoe. I love heel Fish and when he cut that particular promo, I was taken back because this finally gives Mark a reason to really fight. Mark is a great wrestler and I’d love to see the more serious side of him here. I think, Fish will retain here as it’s still a little early in his reign for him to drop the belt.

ROH World Championship

Jay Lethal vs Adam Cole

The build for this has been second to none. It has been some of the best storytelling that ROH have done in quite some time. Cole’s run in the Bullet Club has easily been one of my favorite things from this year. Lethal slowly turning face, I think, also helped make this match into what it is. Cole was banned from having a world title match by Nigel McGuinness after repeated interference, ruining championship matches, so Cole shaved Lethal’s head to make Lethal want to face him.  The head shaving angle which could’ve been incredibly awry was even well done. This match should be spectacular given the strong build behind it.  Lethal has been champion for over a year and Cole is ready for another run, so I’d expect Cole to take the belt here and start a new reign.  With Kenny Omega winning the G1, this could be a big week in rebuilding Bullet Club.

I’m small, talkative and either thinking about wrestling or music. I make a lot of jokes so take what I say with a grain of salt. Ring of Honor & Evolve are my faves. I live at Florida wrestling shows on the weekends.
